Artist Statement

The subjects that I most often depict in my work are portraits and landscapes or combination of the two.
By incorporating a cast of symbolic imagery in a painterly two and three dimensional 'theater' I often explore the tension of opposing forces in my work.
The 'Bird Watchers' series and the portraits with bird images are metaphors for my particular view of the relationships we have with nature and with each other.  In some dioramas, doll-like figures exist in surroundings that are abstract, fragmented, sometimes perilous and occasionally humorous.
My choice and use of the media - painted torn paper, fabric regenerated paintings and three-dimensional images also alludes to the tentative nature of our existence.

Biography

A native of Baltimore, Ms. Hubert has studied at the Maryland Institute of Art, Towson Fine Art School, Harford Community College and with a variety of professional instructors.
She began working traditionally in oils but eventually changed her focus to watercolor. Ms. Huppert began exhibiting her watercolors professionally in 1984 and continued to do so for twelve years.  During this time she gained acceptance into many juried competitions and has won numerous awards.  She was an active member of several watercolor societies and helped establish and run a cooperative gallery in Baltimore for four years.
More recently, Ms. Huppert has been exploring the use of painted, collaged papers, found objects and small sculptural elements in her work. The focus of her work has been mainly nature and figures which she often portrays in ambiguous ways.  As these contemporary, mixed media pieces indicate, Ms. Huppert continues her artistic evolution.

Work Experience

Ms. Huppert has taught oil painting through Baltimore County Recs & Parks and watercolor classes at the Mitchell School Of Art.  She has collaborated with puppet master M.J. Oelke, created designs for Prism Custom Carpets and was a decorative painter with the Braeland Co. Ms. Huppert has worked as a Muralist with Valley Craftsmen. Ltd. and Twin Diamond Studios. She has established her own business and continues designing and painting custom murals and commissioned works of art.
